New FICS Ratings Barrier Broken

I wish it were an achievement in my OTB rating, but I have just breached the 1800 barrier in my standard rating on FICS for the first time. Using the surveybot feature*, I was able to obtain an estimate of what that translates to in terms of a USCF rating. According to FICS, my rating is equivalent to about 1680 USCF (obviously take that with a grain of salt).

*To use this feature at FICS simply type "tell surveybot ratings USCF analyse", and it will return a list of FICS ratings with corresponding USCF ratings determined by regression analysis from USCF ratings submitted by the users of FICS. You can also do this with other ratings like FIDE, for example. Type "finger surveybot" for more details.

Another proof you do something wrong in OTB-games.
What time controls do you use at FICS?

Tempo, my time controls aren't much different in OTB play. My standard games lately on FICS have been 30+10 and 45+45. My OTB time controls are usually g/45. Perhaps I get more nervous in OTB play. I don't know. My last two losses were due mainly to getting into bad positions in the opening.

Holiday greetings!

Incidentally, one of CelticDeaths victories on FICS was over me on a 30 10 game a couple of days ago.

I had one minute on the clock
versus two minutes for Celtic.

My wife started screaming at me
that I had immediately to leave the house to pick up my four-year old daughter from preschool, which I had previously committed to.

Celtic wisely rejected my draw offer , so the only course was resignation in a pretty even position. ( Celtic did have a space advantage.)

LOL! So, you're Turnipcake! :)

Fritz had the game at a slight advantage for me, but I think positionally the game was won for me as you were hard-pressed to find squares for your pieces. Then, all I needed to do was to find the right place to breakthrough (either the h-file - I was black, right?) or the a or b files. H-file was already open, so that would have been the simplest. It was a good game, though, and yes, I was not about to accept a draw in that position.

Maybe so theoretically, but you had
two minutes to plan and successfully execute your attack. ( Granted I only
had one minute left.)

After that it is 10 seconds a side for
the rest of the game, and anything is possible.

I'd take that position anyday with 2 minutes left against 1 minute for my opp.

My opening strategy sucked. But I am now inspired to go read some King's Indian books.
