OCL Fall 2005, U1900, Round 1

White to move.

This is from my round 1 game against the higher rated MStav. I had three pawns for a bishop, and had just invaded my opps position along the a-file. My opponent has just made the move Qc5. Can you see what happened next?

I believe they call that a forced mate in three.

I thought this was a puzzle, not a beating. . .

[grin]

Good job. How in the world did he miss that mating sequence?

Josh, I'll edit the post and show the whole game.

Jim, I think he was tired and aggravated and was lashing out. Originally, he was up a bishop for two pawns, but it was a very bad bishop! Then, I created a pawn fortress so he couldn't penetrate my position, but I left myself the ability to create a breakthrough on the a-file so I could penetrate HIS position. Then, he got frustrated and fell into the 3-move mate.

Nice one. I wonder if your opponent got lost overestimating his material piece advantage and forgot to play defense.
