Team De La Maza - This Is A Very Goooood Sign!!!

I just took the scalp of a 1941 rated player on FICS! That's 211 points higher rated than what I was rated in the game. It should have been a draw, and I offered one twice, but he pushed for the win and paid. I have to get back to puzzle-solving, but here is the unannotated game for your enjoyment.

I should have postponed e5 at least 1 move. But I don't know if I had the courage to castle queenside. Probably yes. I seldom see a guy of 1941 who plays the endgame even worse than me. Good game!

Good game. Not an impressive decision on his part to play on at the endgame.

He had a won ending too! 41. Kh6 wins the game.

Yep, you're right! Ah, well, such is chess. One bad move in the endgame and....

55. Kc5??????????????? 55. Ke5 is an obvious move that wins. 1941, Is FICS ratings inflated more that USCF?

I don't care for playing the white side of the portugeuse attack. I usually play 3. Nf3 to avoid it.

Christopher, actually Ke5 doesn't win, either (55. ... Kb4!).

What Surveybot says in its finger notes is that FICS 1941 is around USCF 1806. The bad thing is, I don't think he was even in time pressure. I think he might have gotten rattled earlier on when he didn't win a piece in all our central exchanges. Clearly, though, his endgame was wanting.

I need to correct myself. It's not in Surveybot's fingernotes. If you go to FICS and type in:

tell Surveybot ratings USCF analyse

It will give a list of FICS ratings and corresponding USCF ratings, per its latest survey data.
