After a quick glance,I was looking at 17 fxe5 Nxh6 with chances for discoveries on the knight or play on f7, but i don't think there is really anything there. Qe2 is awful.
You got yourself in quite a poor position though. it almost seemed like it was a fabricated position, from a puzzle book, with your queen and rooks all doing nothing in the corner.
There were some more active moves that I should have played. I wanted to let him attack me though, because I've played him several times before, and I'm usually the aggressor. I knew he wouldn't expect me to play defensively. My queen is where it's at to guard d6, while I put the rook on c8 to support a pawn push. However, that strategy was too slow in retrospect.

That's exactly correct.
The correct line, as you've indicated, results in an evaluation of =/+ by Fritz.
Instead, my opponent played 17. Qe2?? and lost the whole bishop.
